A Thorough Review of the UN Inspections Through 04 January 2003

09 Janaury 2003 - On the day that U.N. chief weapons inspector Hans
Blix and International Atomic Energy Agency chief inspector Mohamed
ElBaradei reported to the Security Council on progress on the
inspections inside Iraq the Project on Defense Alternatives has
posted a compendium of press reports providing a thorough review of
the UNMOVIC inspections through 4 January 2003. This compilation is
entitled "Inspecting Iraq: A Record of the First 40 Days."

"Hans Blix is quoted saying 'there is no smoking gun', says Carl
Conetta, co-director of the Project on Defense Alternatives, "but
that's an understatement. So far they haven't even found a gun."

"George Bush says he is a patient man," adds Charles Knight, co-
director of the Project on Defense Alternatives, "He should let the
inspectors do their job... and even if they eventually find some
Iraqi weapons there are good options for the UN destroying whatever
they find and keeping the conflict with Iraq well short of war."
