(Help) Skill penalty for not using the correct equipment

    Hi, I am the latest list Invertebrate, (I have hopes of evolving into a monkey one day!) and I am having problems with certain Spycraft Skills. These Skills

      Hi, I am the latest list Invertebrate, (I have hopes of evolving into
      a monkey one day!) and I am having problems with certain Spycraft
      Skills. These Skills need specialist equipment to be used efficiently.
      For instance if you attempt to use the Electronics skill without
      being equipped with an Electronics kit, you are at a -4 skill penalty.
      Now I have got the +4 added when you are equipped with the
      appropriate kit sorted out a simple BONUS:SKILL|Electronics|4 added
      to the Electronics kit line. What I am having trouble with is adding
      the -4 penalty to the skill for when you don't have the appropriate
      kit. I tried BONUS:SKILL|Electronics|-4 on the Electronics skill,
      that didn't work. I Tried SYNERGY:Electronics=-4=-4 on the
      Electronics skill. As far as I know there is no flag to set to say
      that you have 'skill profficency', (like weapon profficency, but,you
      guessed it, for skills). I am sure this problem has cropped up many
      times but I don't know the workaround. The only idea I can come up
      with at the moment is creating an invisible feat that sets up the
      BONUS:SKILL|Electronics|-4 , but that sounds very messy.

      Any help would be gratefully received

      Atm make it a template. Take a look at the Rogue s Thieves tools template in the PHB for how to do it. Yes, it relies on the players, but we can t do

        Yes, it relies on the players, but we can't do everything for them
        (yet!).

        ... Thanks, Mynex you said the magic word TEMPLATE , I realised that is exactly the place to put them all! Spycraft is unusual in RPG games in that there is

          Thanks, Mynex you said the magic word 'TEMPLATE', I realised that is
          exactly the place to put them all! Spycraft is unusual in RPG games
          in that there is only one race, (Humans), so putting the Skill rank
          penalties on the race template means that everyone gets them, (and it
          deals with people using them as untrained skills, which my proposed
          solution missed!)
