Comment site for NCLB Commission (NCLB reauthorization)
The NCLB Commission is in the process of completing its work, drafting its report, and then issuing a final report regarding the reauthorization of the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB). This report is expected in early 2007 and will include recommended statutory language for the reauthorized NCLB. If you want to comment on the importance of retaining adequate yearly progress (AYP) requirements for students with disabilities, or other issues, here is a link you can use to submit comments (there is a specific "special education" category you can use):
Several organizations, including NCLD and NDSS, have issued their own comments. Reading these may help you in formulating your own concerns. NCLD’s comments can be found at http://www.ncld.org/content/view/1075/314/ and NDSS’s comments can be found at http://www.ndss.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=1957&Itemid=209 . Also, the Advocacy Institute has a copy of the CCD Education Task Force’s Principles for the NCLB reauthorization posted on its site: http://www.advocacyinstitute.org/resources/CCD_NCLB_Principles.pdf . In addition, the testimony of Dr. Rachel Quenemoen of the National Center on Educational Outcomes (at a House hearing in 7/06) can be found at http://education.umn.edu/nceo/OnlinePubs/EdWorkforceTestimony2006.htm .
Finally, please consider sending a copy of your comments to your federal legislators as well.
