Orthodox Christians in Ukraine accuse Greek Catholics on proselytism

Moscow, June 5, Interfax - The brotherhood of Alexander Nevsky has
accused the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church of working to expand in Ukraine.

"The operations of the Uniate Church, established over four centuries
ago to eliminate the Orthodox Church, have always been aggressive," a
statement of the brotherhood received by Interfax on Tuesday says.

During World War II Greek Catholics "to a great extent stained
themselves with ties to the Nazis by offering spiritual support to
the Ukrainian formations of the Wehrmacht which were notorious for
      their brutality," the statement says.

The brotherhood names as an example of the policy of proselytism
pursued by Greek Catholics a recent interview with the head of the
Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church Lubomir Huzar in which "he declared
the intentions of Uniates to open new dioceses in the country's east
      in the nearest future."

The brotherhood is convinced that today the objective of the leaders
of Greek Catholics throughout Ukraine is "to intensify proselytism
closely connected with the aspirations of the Uniates to take root in
the central and eastern parts of the country."

The statement says that people from the three western regions where
the Greek Catholic Church dominates - Lvov, Ternopol and
Ivano-Frankovsk, as well as those from Transcarpathia - are buying
land and real estate in Kiev and its environs on a large scale.
