      Capernaum church robbed

The Church of the 12 Disciples in Capernaum was robbed on Tuesday for
the second time in the past six months.

The Christian holy site sits adjacent to the ruins of the Sea of
Galilee town that Jesus called home during his years of ministry.

The Greek monks who administer the church told Israel's Ma'ariv daily
newspaper that the thieves made off with a large quantity of crosses,
      jewelry and other sacred objects.

"I can't believe they will be able to sell these unique items"
without being caught, said one of the monks.

Police officials said that a wave of break-ins has struck orthodox
churches across the Galilee region over the past year. They believe a
single group of thieves may be responsible for all the incidents.
