Interfax-Religion is an important informational resource dealing with
      religion - Metropolitan Kirill

St. Petersburg, June 1, Interfax - The chairman of the Department for
External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate Metropolitan
Kirill of Smolensk and Kaliningrad underlined importance of the
website on religion, created by the Interfax Group
(www.interfax-religion.com), for covering the activities of Russian
      and foreign leading religious bodies.

Recently the media have been paying great attention to religion and
interfaith dialogue, Metropolitan Kirill told St. Petersburg's
      journalists on Friday.

'These issues hold important position in the media agencies product.
There are even some specialized Internet websites. Here I'd like to
mention the Religion project pursued by the Interfax. This resource
is really important,' Metropolitan Kirill said.

According to him, journalists dealing with religion have become more
      professional.

'Some ten years ago the journalists were largely aware of religious
issues. Now there are professionals among them. I pray it may go that
way. It is due to the media that religion is more socially
      influential today,' he said.

The website on religion (www.interfax-religion.com) was created by
the Interfax Information Services Group in December 2004 in order to
cover religious issues in Russia and abroad.

The website presents a news line, exclusive interviews, analytics,
detailed central and regional press monitoring, and an overview of
the thematic Internet resources. The portal also maintains a unique
religious news archive that was created in 1989 and currently
includes over 20,000 pieces of news.

The Interfax's religious project was welcomed by Russia's most
prominent religious leaders: Patriarch Alexy of Moscow and All
Russia, President of the Council of Muftis in Russia Ravil Gainutdin,
      Chief Rabbi Berel Lazar.
