      Christians in Syria Celebrate Easter, President al-Assad Congratulates

      DAMASCUS, (SANA)-Christian communities in Syria on Sunday celebrated Easter
      by holding prayers and Masses in the Syrian cities.

      Patriarchs and bishops delivered Easter sermons in which they talked about
      the meaning of this annual occasion and the happiness which people feels all
      over Syrian regions.

      They referred to the national unity, tolerance and coexistence Syria
      witnesses under the leadership of President Bashar al-Assad, where all
      Syrian people celebrate this great occasion.

      President Bashar al-Assad charged Minister of State for Presidential Affairs
      Ghassan al-Laham with offering congratulations to patriarchs, bishops and
      Christian communities on Easter.

      Minister Laham visited Patriarch Ignatius IV Hazim of Antioch and all the
      East for Roman Orthodox, Patriarch Zaka I Iwas of Syriac Orthodox and
      Patriarch Gregory III Laham of Antioch and all the East for Roman Catholic.

      The Patriarchs expressed appreciation of President Bashar al-Assad for
      participating Christians with their Eid.

      For his part, Minister of Islamic Endowments Ziad al-Din al-Ayyobi visited
      the patriarchs, congratulating them on Easter.

      "It is important to avail this opportunity and embody the meaning of
      national unity among Syrian citizens and stand in the face of challenges and
      pressures to which the country is exposed.
