Orthodox parish of the Patriarchate of Constantinople turns up in Pyongyang

      ---------------------------------

SUMMARY: Through the efforts of 2 bishops of the Patriarchate of Constantinople, Metropolitan Sotirios of Korea and his vicar, Bishop Amvrossy, a new Orthodox parish has been established in North Korea’s capital, Pyongyang.

After Constantinople’s reps reached an agreement with N. Korea’s leader, Metropolitan Sotirios began visiting Pyonyang, bringing in materials needed for opening a small church. The ongoing crisis in relations between North and South Korea prevented +Sotirios from being present when “Holy Trinity Church” opened several months, but he recently had an opportunity to go to Pyongyang and to celebrate the liturgy with 2 Korean priests.

The Moscow Patriarchate’s temple of “The Life-giving Trinity” in Pyongang was consecrated on August, 13th, 2006 by Metropolitan Kirill of Smolensk, Archbishop Veniamin of Vladivostok, and Bishops Jonathan of Abakansk and Mark of Egorevsk and Russian and Korean clergy.
