      Dean Search – St. Herman Orthodox Theological Seminary

      The Board of Trustees of St. Herman Orthodox Theological Seminary, Kodiak, Alaska, announces the vacancy of the office of Dean, effective July 1, 2007. Applications are now being accepted. Interested candidates should submit a cover letter expressing interest and suitability for the position, resume, and three names of references with their contact information to Mrs. Betty Slanta at slanta@.... The deadline for application is April 3, 2007. All communications will be held in strict confidence.

      St. Herman Orthodox Theological Seminary is a seminary of the Russian Orthodox Diocese of Alaska of the Orthodox Church in America, located in Kodiak, Alaska. The mission of the Seminary is to train men and women to meet the spiritual needs of the Orthodox faithful in Alaska and beyond. The seminary exists to provide the moral, theological, liturgical and spiritual foundation to nurture various vocations. Upon receipt of approval by the State of Alaska and regional accreditation, the Seminary will offer a two-year degree, the Associate of Arts in Theology, and the four-year Bachelor of Divinity degree.

      The applicant must be an Eastern Orthodox priest, with a Doctorate preferred, but a Masters degree will be considered. The applicant must have excellent administrative and communication skills to manage people, funds and property. The applicant must supervise and be responsible for the spiritual and academic life of the seminary, be able to manage the seminary finances, oversee all other administration, and work as directed by the Bishop of Alaska. The applicant must be a good problem solver and sensitive to the issues and needs of students, faculty, staff and their families. The applicant must be able to teach effectively in as many as six classes per semester. It is critical that the candidate be able to understand and communicate the vision of the Seminary and to interact positively with the entire Seminary community, supporters, donors and other constituencies. The applicant must submit to a background check. Conference calls and personal interviews may be conducted at the discretion of the Search Committee.

      The Search Committee consists of members of the St. Herman Seminary Board of Trustees: Mr. Cliff Argue, Committee Chairman; Archimandrite Isidore, Chancellor, Russian Orthodox Diocese of Alaska; Ms. Mina Jacobs, Ms. Eleana Silk, Ms. Marge Pysarchyk, and Mrs. Betty Y. Slanta, and Faculty member Dr. Bea Dunlop, Registrar and Professor in Patristics, New Testament Scripture, and Greek.
