Christian-Muslim Youth Seminar in Aleppo - Syria
- Christian-Muslim Youth Seminar in Aleppo - Syria
Young Christians and Muslims from the Middle East, representing churches and
Islamic institutes will meet in Aleppo for three days to discuss the topic:
"Creation & Religions as Sources of Unity".
This Seminar comes as a follow up to other Christian-Muslim Youth encounters
and is one of a series organized during the past four years by the Middle
East Council of Churches General Secretariat in coordination with the Unit
on Education and Renewal. These youth encounters are motivated by the deep
conviction that grass-roots young people should be part of the mainstream
dialogue between Christians and Muslims in the Middle East, and that they
should be encouraged to learn about each other in order to maintain the
dialogue of life.
The Seminar will be organized as part of the special celebrations of the
city of Aleppo in Syria named "The Capital of Islamic Culture for 2006". It
will start on November 30 and end on December 3, 2006, providing space for
young Christians and Muslims to interact in dialogue and discussions on the
chosen theme. Field visits to Christian and Muslim institutes will be part
of the daily program as well as sight seeing in Aleppo.
The opening ceremony will be marked with the presence of H.G. Archbishop
Butros Mryati, Archbishop of the Armenian Catholic Archbishopric in Aleppo
and member of the MECC Executive Committee, Fr. Hady Mahfouz, MECC Associate
General Secretary and Christian and Muslim religious leaders in Aleppo.
