The MECC liaison office in Cyprus worked closely with the Churches in Cyprus
to assess the number of Lebanese evacuees in Cyprus and their needs with
respect to relief and accommodation. The office in Limassol was able to meet
the needs of several individuals, couples and families evacuated from
Lebanon by boats and referred by MECC Beirut office, facilitating their
3-days stay in Cyprus and travel arrangements for other countries. The
Government of Cyprus received a restricted number of evacuees, taking their
full responsibility. Finally, the Church of Cyprus, the Armenian Church in
Cyprus in addition to the Government, sent relief supplies to Lebanon. The
Church of Cyprus also announced that the funds collected on Sundays from
parishioners will be allocated for relief to the Lebanese people in Lebanon.
