      complex in Doha

The long cherished dream of the Orthodox Christians in Doha (Qatar) flowered

on 23rd Dec 05. The Government of Qatar allowed about three acres of land
free of cost, for the construction of Churches/worship centers for seven
Indian Churches. Indian Orthodox Community in Doha has decided to erect a
Church complex in two floors of 1900 Sq. Meters and the foundation stone for

the same was laid by H.G. Geevarghese Mar Coorilose Metropolitan of Mumbai
Diocese, at 3 pm on Friday, 23 Dec 05 in the presence of a very big crowd.
Dr. Zachariahs Mar Theophilus, The Safargan Metropolitan of Marthoma Church,

H.E. Dr. George Joseph, Indian Ambassador to Qatar, vicars of the Jacobite
Syrian Church, Knananite Church, Mar Thoma Church, CSI church, were present
on the occasion, in addition to the Orthodox Priests from the existing three

parishes. They are functioning in temporary Churches and they will be united

as one as soon as the building of the new Church would be completed. As and
when the new Church Building will be ready, the Govt of Doha will grant the
official recognition for the parish, Priests and the Vicar. A general
committee comprising of 60 members from the entire churches will be
functioning as the Executive committee for the supervision of the church
construction. Mr. George Pothen serves as the co-ordinator. H.G. Mar
Coorilos Metropolitan returned to Mumbai soon after the Christmas service at

Doha. Further developments of the Church constructions and details will be
announced in due course. Pictures of the event cannot be published in the
media due to some Govt restrictions. Prayers of one and all are earnestly
solicited for the speedy and blessed completion of the construction works.
