St. Vladimir's Seminary seeks Systems Support Specialist

CRESTWOOD, NY [OCA Communciations] - Saint Vladimir's Seminary, a
graduate school serving approximately 125 students, faculty, and
staff in Crestwood (Westchester County), New York, is seeking to hire
a full-time Systems Support Specialist. The new employee would join a
team made up of one Director of Systems and several part-time student
assistants that support systems and information technologies at the
school. This position approximates SAGE Level II Junior Systems
Administrator. The Systems Support Specialist would provide primary
support to the seminary's users.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills; capable of training
users in applications and operating system fundamentals and writing
basic documentation; good phone skills.
Familiar with the Windows 2000/XP operating systems and its
commands/utilities at a user level; can edit files, issue commands,
find user's home directories, navigate through the file system. Basic
familiarity with using the command line in UNIX/Linux.
Fundamental understanding of an operating system: for example,
understanding job control, soft and hard links or shortcuts,
distinction between a user's profile and home directory.
Basic familiarity with relational databases.
Able to follow instructions well.
Two years of college or equivalent post-high school education or
A degree or certificate in computer science or a related field.
Previous experience in customer support, computer operations, system
administration or another related area.
Familiarity with most basic system administration tools and
processes; for example, can boot/shut down a machine, add and remove
user accounts, use backup programs and disk-checking utilities, and
install a Windows workstation operating system.
Experience with internetworking non-similar operating systems, e.g.,
UNIX, Windows, Macintosh.
Experience with TCP/IP networking protocols. Ability to debug DNS,
DHCP, and other networking issues.
Experience with HTML and web design.
Experience using relational databases and experience using a database
Experience maintaining network cabling.
Experience installing boards and memory in systems. Experience with
diagnosis and repair of computer systems and peripherals (e.g., disks

Respond to help desk requests and provide technical consulting on
hardware and software issues.
Install, configure, test, and debug operating systems and multi-user
Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and coordinate repairs for PC

Document and maintain current hardware/software configurations,
inventory files, hardware failure reports and maintenance contracts.
Maintain system and application documentation.

recently opened a search for a communications and public relations
officer to work under the direction of the chief advancement officer.
Responsibilities include facilitatiing and expanding relations
between the seminary and its various constituencies, with a focus on
parishes, Church leaders, and members of the press and media; editing
and managing the production of the semi-annual magazine, SVSNews;
coordinating and promiting seminary events in conjunction with
seminary departments and personnel, ensuring consistency in both
event programming and external communications related to events;
maintaining internal communications concerning seminary-related
events occurring on and offcampus; chronicling seminary life and
managing paper and electronic archives; writing press releases and
distributing them to media, Church contacts, and others; performing
or arranging photography for seminary events and maintaining and
expanding photo files; producing web content; updating and
maintaining accurate and expanding lists of relevant local and
national media contacts, and serving as liaison between faculty and
media contacts; and working closely with the advancement office,
alumni relations/recruitment officer, SVS Press, and the director of
systems in producing printed and electronic PR materials
The successful candidate will possess a bachelor's degree and have a
minimum of two years experience in public relations, journalism,
communications, or a related field. He or she must possess excellent
writing, design, organizational, communications, and relationship
skills; familiarity with the field of public relation's key concepts,
practices, and procedures; Microsoft Office, desktop publishing, and
internet computer skills; familiarity with the teachings, life, and
organization of the Orthodox Church; an ability to understand the
seminary's mission; the ability to communicate the seminary's work
through the internet, newspaper, periodicals, and other forms of
media; the ability to handle multiple competing deadlines and
prioritize activities; an ability to work independently and as part
of a team in planning projects and events in a highly-motivated and
self-directed manner; willingness to work occasional weeknights and
weekends; initiative and creativity; and professional presentation
