The metal band Slipknot hit the stage in Athens despite a request by the
Greek Orthodox Church for concert organizers to cancel the show because of
the group's violent lyrics and references to the devil. The band from Des
Moines, Iowa, performed this week at the open-air Lykavitos Theater. The
church said in a statement: "The members of the band have a shocking
appearance, wearing black uniforms and masks that look like skulls."
