POPE CONGRATULATES ORTHODOX WORLD WITH EASTER
1 May 2005: Pope Benedict XVI greeted the entire Orthodox world with Easter.
Pope Benedict XVI is to give his first traditional Sunday blessing to the
faithful in St Peter's Square.
The Pope will deliver the Angelus blessing from the same apartment window
used by his predecessor, John Paul II.
German Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger was chosen to lead the he Roman Catholic
Church on the third round of votes by the 115-cardinal conclave April 19.
Ratzinger himself announced that he was adopting the name Benedict XVI in
his address to thousands of people in St. Peter's Square in Rome.
Ratzinger pertains to the conservative wing of the Catholic Church and is
expected to continue the policy of his predecessor John Paul II.
Pope John Paul II died on April 2 after serving as pontiff for 26 years -
the third longest papacy in Church history.
