      St. Innocent Cathedral celebrates anniversary

St. Innocent Russian Orthodox Cathedral will celebrate the 10th anniversary
of its consecration this weekend with festivities including an assembly of
the diocesan clergy, a visiting bishop, an ordination and Grand Banquet.
Clergy from throughout Alaska have gathered for the assembly. Events will
culminate Sunday with Hierarchical Divine Liturgy at 9 a.m. and the banquet
at noon at 401 Turpin Road, off the Glenn Highway.

The Rt. Rev. Nikolai, bishop of Anchorage, Sitka and Alaska, will
officiate at the events. Other guests will include the Rt. Rev. Benjamin,
bishop of Berkeley, a former dean of St. Innocent Cathedral.

On Sunday, Bishop Nikolai will ordain Archdeacon Isidore (Brittain) to
the priesthood. Archdeacon Isidore, 29 originally of Albany, Ore., is a
2000 graduate of St. Tikhon's Seminary in South Canaan, Pa., and has been
in Alaska since 2001. He serves as secretary to the bishop and will take on
greater parochial responsibilities at the cathedral in the coming months.

St. Innocent Cathedral was founded in 1967 and built from a house church
to a basement church to a cathedral. Patriarch Alesky II, the spiritual
leader of the Russian Orthodox Church, blessed the cathedral's cornerstone
in September of 1993. The cathedral was consecrated Oct. 15-16, 1994.
Tickets to the banquet are $25, $5 for children 16 and younger, and can
be obtained from the Russian Orthodox Diocese office (279-0025) or at the door.
