NEWS FROM THE ORTHODOX CHRISTIAN MISSION CENTER (OCMC)

      ===================================
New Missionary Era Begins in Africa

      November 5, 2004

The Orthodox Christian Mission Center (OCMC), St. Augustine, FL -
Following the legacy of his predecessors, His Beatitude Theodoros II,
the newly enthroned Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa,
is ushering in a new missionary era for Africa. The Orthodox Holy
Synod of Bishops of the Patriarchate held their first meeting on
October 27, 2004, where several Bishops were elected to serve in new
areas. Three of the elected people have been featured in OCMC
publications in the past due to their active work in missions.

Among those receiving new positions is His Grace Panteleimon, Bishop
of Ghana since 1999, who was elected to become His Eminence
Panteleimon, Metropolitan of Pilousion in Port Said, Egypt. Under His
Eminenceâs leadership, the Orthodox Church in Ghana flourished. With
His Eminenceâs missionary vision, we can expect great strides for the
      Orthodox Church wherever he is.

Fr. Ignatios Sennis, who has been in Calcutta, India, since 1991, was
elected to become His Grace Ignatios, Bishop of Madagascar. Fr.
Ignatios helped establish "The Philanthropic Society of the Orthodox
Church in India," as an arm of the Church that responds to the
extreme physical needs of a people in desperate circumstances in
India. He has been serving in the mission field for over 14 years.

The Holy Metropolis of Dar Es Salaam (in Tanzania) has been renamed
the Metropolis of Irinoupolis. The Metropolitan of Irinoupolis bears
the title, ãexarch of Eastern Tanzania and Seychelle Islands.ä His
Eminence Dimitrios, Metropolitan of Cameroon since 2002, was elected
to become Metropolitan of Irinoupolis. His Eminence has served as a
missionary in Madagascar, India, Hong Kong, and the Philippines.

The Orthodox Christian Mission Center looks forward to the future and
growth of the Orthodox Church in Africa through the cooperative
efforts with the newly elected hierarchs and those who continue to
faithfully serve their dioceses and metropolinates.
