Russian religious leaders call for scrapping of Bolshevik day

Warsaw (ENI). Russian religious leaders have urged President Vladimir Putin
to abolish the country's traditional holiday on 7 November marking the 1917
Bolshevik revolution, and replace it with a public holiday which "genuinely
      unites society''.

"November 7 is a day of tragic division here, which sparked a civil war in
which brothers turned weapons against brothers, sons against fathers," said
the Inter-Religious Council of Russia, grouping Orthodox, Muslim, Jewish and
      Buddhist leaders. [362 words, ENI-04-0660]
