Thieves take scooter monk used to deliver quilts

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) -- Thieves have stolen a small scooter a monk in
southwest Missouri used to deliver quilts to people in need at hospitals
and convalescent homes.
The Springfield News-Leader reports Father Joseph McCormack, a monk in
the Eastern Orthodox order, used the scooter to deliver quilts part of
the Healing Quilt Project of the Ozarks. The project provides quilts for
people who are ill and creates memorial quilts honoring people who have
But the scooter was stolen from outside his home this week, leaving
McCormack to travel by foot and sometimes on buses. He's canceled events
at schools and cannot make quilt deliveries because the scooter was his

to do they wouldn't have taken it.
