HONG KONG. Due to the fact that during the visit of the delegation of Orthodox Church headed by Metropolitan Chrysostomos of Dodonskim, questions were raised concerning the history of Orthodoxy in the region. On June 28, Metropolitan Nikitas of Hong Kong clarified to the press regarding the official position of the Hong Kong metropolis on the matter.

According to Metropolitan Nikitas, the jurisdiction founded in 1996 comprised of 11 South-East Asian countries are part of the Hong Kong metropolis of the Patriarchate of Constantinople, including China. The Hong Kong metropolis is registered as a "Church" by Hong Kong's Parliament; in China, she has no official recognition, but maintains good ties with Chinese authorities.

According to the Hong Kong metropolitan, "the lack of recognition is due, mainly to bad memories left by Russia in this region as a colonial power, and the nationalist aspirations of the Russian government and the Russian Orthodox Church in recent years."

The Metropolitan noted that the Hong Kong metropolis readily responds to requests from the diplomatic representatives of Greece and other countries, and serves the religious needs of all Orthodox believers, regardless of nationality, reports the "Amen" agency."
