The target of the Syrian suicide bombers may have been the Patriarch of Antioch

The terrorist attack on June 27 in Damascus was committed near the complex of the Patriarchate of Antioch after the return of John X

DAMASCUS. The French Orthodox site Orthodoxie.com citing mjoa.org and the Lebanese daily An-Nahar reported that the explosion that occurred on Thursday, June 27 in Damascus, took place near the campus of the Orthodox Patriarchate of Antioch shortly after the return of the Patriarch John X. However, the Primate of the Orthodox Church of Antioch was not injured.

According to official data, four people were killed and several people were injured after two suicide bombers blew themselves up near the charitable association Al-Ihshan and Patriarchal Cathedral Maryamiya. One of the two suicide bombers died, the other, badly wounded, was taken to hospital by Syrian security forces.

The explosion was carried out when the Shiite charity association distributed humanitarian aid to low-income families. Those killed in the attack were mainly from the poor families who had come to get help.

Родной брат Патриарха Ионна Х - митрополит Алеппский Павел - в апреле вместе с сиро-яковитским епископом Алеппо Иоанном Ибрагимом был похищен боевиками, и с этого времени об их судьбе нет достоверных известий. The brother of Patriarch John X, Metropolitan of Aleppo Paul, in April along with the Syro-Jacobite bishop of Aleppo John Ibrahim, was abducted by gunmen, and since then there has been no reliable news on their fate. Recently, the media reported the death of the bishops, however, the Patriarch of Antioch has not confirmed this information.
