      In many European countries, churches are being closed, but here in Russia we have in Russia the opposite  is true;  grand buildings are being built.  This means that Russian society is building a new life on the foundation laid by their ancestors, the patriarch said.
       

       


      PETERSBURG, May 28 - RIA Novosti. The Russian Federation today bears a special historical mission of preserving Orthodoxy in the Slavic world, said the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill, said during a sermon at the consecration of St. Nicholas Naval Cathedral in Kronstadt. 

      Present at the dedication of Russia's main naval Orthodox church, St. Nicholas Cathedral in Kronstadt were: Svetlana Medvedev, wife of the prime-minister of the Russian Federation;  St. Petersburg Governor Georgy Poltavchenko; presidential envoy to the Central Federal District Alexander Stepashin; and Chairman of the Audit Chamber Sergei Stepashin. Повторное  The re-dedication of the cathedral comes after a long restoration, which began in the early 2000s. In Soviet times, on the premises of the cathedral there was a club for sailors and a theater room. . The first consecration of the cathedral took place exactly 100 years ago - in 1913.
       
      "Today Holy Rus, historical Russia, has a special mission to preserve Orthodoxy of the great spiritual power of the Slavic peoples," - said the patriarch.

      Theophilos, the Patriarch of Jerusalem and All Palestine took part in the consecration.
