Panikhida for the homeless
A panikhida for the homeless who did not survive this winter
Moscow, February 28, Blagovest-info. On Sunday, March 3, at the church of the Holy unmercenaries Cosmas and Damian in Shubin [section of Moscow] -- on the initiative of the association "Friends of the Community of Saint Egidio" - "Friends on the street" -- there will be a panikhida for the homeless people who lived and died on city streets.
The unprecedented December cold took many lives of our fellow citizens, but the homeless people who lived on the streets suffered more than anybody. Volunteers from the movement "Friends on the street", their homeless friends and many un-indifferent residents will gather to remember all those who did not survive this and past winters.
The first such panikhida was served in memory of Lilia, a young woman who died from cold and disease on the street. Since then, every year all dead homeless people, whose names are known to "Friends on the street" are remembered by name. People of all ages and incomes, those who have a home - and those who do not, sit down together side by side to share a meal cooked with love.
