ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST RUSSIAN ORTHODOX CATHEDRAL
SPECIAL CLOTHING COLLECTION
FOR NEEDY CHILDREN'S HOME IN MOSCOW
Dear Parishioners and Friends,
We have received a special request for urgent help from a needy children's home (Дом Малютки) in Moscow. They desperately need clothing and shoes for their children. Fr. Victor has blessed me to handle the coordination of the clothing collection which will be sent to Moscow as a donation from our Church in time for Easter.
I know that our parish will respond to this appeal, as always, with great generosity and support! Our parish is blessed with so many healthy, happy children. Each Sunday, we marvel at the number of newly -baptized additions to our church and at the growing flock of children standing in line for communion on a regular basis. I know that the parents of these wonderful children will be as generous as possible in donating gently-used clothing, shoes and other miscellaneous items for this special Easter collection. For those of us who do not have children, perhaps a visit to Babies-R-Us etc. may be in order?
The children's home currently has 40 children of whom 10-12 are infants, 10 are bedridden invalids and the rest range from 1-l/2 years to 3 years of age. There are children with Downs and fetal alcohol syndrom. Many children have parents who are either serving a jail sentence or have been deemed unfit to care for them. There are more boys than girls. The home is run by a director and staff who are Russian Orthodox and all the children in the home are baptized.
We will be setting up a special area in the parish hall for the collection. Please donate either new or gently-used items. For further information or to volunteer to help with this collection, please contact me directly: Xenia Woyevodsky, KCEHIA@...(301-365-3763)
Following is a list of what they need for about 40 children, mostly boys:
* Clothing for 10-12 infants, about 70 cm in height (approx. 24 inches). Russian shoe sizes are 16, 17 and 18. They need about 3 - 5 pairs.
* Clothing for 10 bedridden invalid children, about 80 cm in height (approx. 30 inches). Shoes are not as important. They apparently have shoes
* Clothing and shoes for the remaining children (about 20) ranging from ages l-l/2 years to 3 years, from 80 - 104 cm (approx. 30 to 36")
* Clothing and shoes for 2 boys, age 4 years, approx. 110 cm height (approx. 42")
