      America’s Archdiocese Donates $ 200,000 to Greece
By Nicky Mariam Onti on February 8, 2013

The amount of $ 200,000 has been offered by the Archdiocese of America
to the International Orthodox Christian Charity (IOCC) in order to use
this money for the urgent delivery of heating oil to 30 charitable
institutions located in Athens, Boeotia and in 14 other cities in
Northern Greece. This financial amount comes from the Relief Fund for
the people of Greece, established for immediate economic assistance to
      the suffering people in Greece.

According to the announcement, the money is enough for the oil supply
for the above institutions and will satisfy their needs for this winter.
In the above mentioned institutions, about 1,500 people, children,
adults and elderly are being hosted.

Archbishop Demetrios of America, said that this movement “Is both an
offer and expression of true love and concern from the faithful of the
Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America to our brothers who are suffering
from the huge economic crisis that hit Greece and Europe.”

The Archdiocese of America, along with the Benevolent Brotherhood have
donated a total of $ 1.2 million to assist people in Greece who are
suffering because of the current financial crisis.
