ATHENS. On New Year's Vatopedi Abbot Ephraim,
who is in the Koridallos jail in Athens, was visited by Metropolitans Jacob of Argolid [?]  and Joseph Prikoniss [?]. On January 2, Ephraim was visited by Metropolitan Athanasios of Limassol who flew in from Cyprus, who, in his youth, had been at Vatopedi under the guidance of elders.

Despite the fact that during the last week dozens of
bishops condemned the arrest of Igumen Ephraim in the press and on TV there still has been no
official reaction by the Constantinople and Hellenic Orthodox
Churches, aside from the informal comment of the Archbishop Hieronymous II of Athens, published by the agency "Romfea." The Primate of the Church of Hellas, said that he was not aware of all details
of this matter but in any case is concerned that the arrest coincided with the
      Christmas holidays.

On January 2nd, Minister for Foreign Affairs,  S. Dimos, responding to
journalists' questions, said that the events related to Vatopedi and Abbot
Ephraim, are not within the purview of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Greece.
