"Voices of Orthodox Russia"
30th June 2009
Meeting with the President of the International Foundation for the Unity of Orthodox Christian Nations
On Tuesday, June 30, 2009, Archimandrite Zacchaeus, Representative of the Orthodox Church in America to the Moscow Patriarchate traveled to the main office of the International Foundation for the Unity of Orthodox Christian Nations (IFUOCN) where he met with the foundation's president, Professor Valery A. Alekseev.
During the course of the meeting, Father Zacchaeus and Professor Alekseev discussed in detail a range of issues relating to the carrying out of the foundation's Patriarchal Program, "Voices of Orthodox Russia" in the United States in 2010. Professor Alekseev agreed that it would be wise to assign someone to extensively research a range of possible locations in the United States of America where there is a concentration of Orthodox parishes of various jurisdictions. This could be undertaken by the staff of the Moscow Representation of the Orthodox Church in America. The IFUOCN could research locations where there would be Orthodox municipal, political, and cultural leaders who would offer their support of such a program. As is customary, members of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of Orthodox also participate in the Patriarchal Program, "Voices of Orthodox Russia" and would be able to meet with local politicians and diplomats during the course of the visit to the United States.
It was decided that more information will be collected to determine exactly what should be the responsibility of the IFUOCN and what the Orthodox Church in America can assist with to make the proposed program "Voices of Orthodox Russia" a reality that can take place in the United States of America in 2010 as a positive cultural exchange between the USA and Russia. Once the necessary information is obtained, it will be presented to His Holiness, Patriarch KIRILL of Moscow and All Russia and His Beatitude, Metropolitan JONAH of All America and Canada for their Primatial Blessings.
Also participating in the meeting in his capacity as Secretary of the Moscow Representation of the Orthodox Church in America was Priest Daniel Lugovoi, who will actively take part in the planning and preparation of the program "Voices of Orthodox Russia."
