Jacobite Syrian Church delegates meeting on Sept 30
Kochi, Sept 18: Over 2,000 delegates from various churches of
Angamaly Diocese are expected to participate in the one-day Jacobite
Syrian Church Delegates meeting to be held here on September 30.
Besides the delegates, more than 230 priests would also participate
in the meeting, which was expected to take important decisions
concerning the diocese, Bishop Joseph Mar Gregorious of Jacobites
Church told reporters here today.
He said the new Left Democratic Front (LDF) Government in the state
should take steps to open for worship the churches that remained
closed as a result of the long pending disputes between orthodox and
Jacobite factions of the Malankara Orthodox Church over various
issues including the church properties.
The meeting would also give shape for an action plan for recovering
the disputed Trikkunnath Seminary and Church, all educational and
other institutions of the church at the nearby Aluva.
Police intervention in church matters should be stopped, he said
adding all cases registered against the Jacobite church faithfuls
should be withdrawn.
