Germany: Daughter of Turkmen muslim became Abbess of a Benedictine monastery

Munich, July 12, Apic / Blagovist-info. Daughter of a Turkmen Muslim became the abbess of the "Venio"  Benedictine monastery in Bavaria.
On July 11 Sister Carmen Tachmurat received a blessing to serve as Abbess from the Archbishop Reinhard Marx of Munich.
Her father, a Muslim born in Turkmenistan, worked at the Munich Radio Station "Free Europe"; her mother was German.

The girl was baptized in the Catholic Church, but did not feel a religious vocation immediately.  Qualifying as social educator, she has long engaged in scholarly work.  She entered a convent in 1997, becoming a nun at age 47.
The Venio monastic community, founded in the early 1920s, today has 25 sisters who combinea life of prayer with professional activities - among the nuns there are pediatricians, nurses, specialists in the field of computer science and engineers.
