16684Visit of Bishop Jakub to Greece
- Jul 10, 2012From 25 June to 2 July, a delegation of the Orthodox Church in Poland, led by the Archbishop of Bialystok and Gdansk Jakub went on a visit to Greece. The delegation consisted of: Frs. Jerzy Boreczko, Miko³aj Ostapczuk and Jan Fiedorczuk, Anatol Szymaniuk as well as Fr. Protodeacon Anatol Daniluk, subdeacon Viacheslav Perek and Jan Samusiewicz.
The Polish clergy were invited by the Metropolitan of Veria and Naus Panteleimon. The main objective of the Polish delegation was to hand over the part of relics of St. Martyr Gabriel, along with the icon to the monastery of Dovra near Veria, where the residence of the Metropolitan Panteleimon is located.
Delegation of the Polish church also participated in the 18th St. Paul’s Days, which are held every year in Veria. The focal point of the ceremony was a Divine Liturgy celebrated on 29 June in St. Peter and Paul Orthodox Church in Veria. It has been celebrated by Metropolitan of Pittsburgh Sava (Greek Orthodox Church in the USA). The liturgy was co-celebrated by representatives of the Patriarchates: Constantinople, Alexandria, Antioch, Jerusalem, Russian, Serbian, and Romanian. During the Liturgy the Polish delegation members were honored by the Metropolitan Panteleimon with commemorative medals of St. Apostle Paul.
That same evening, the clergy, along with numerous residents of Veria succeeded in solemn procession to the place where according to the Acts of the Apostles Apostle Paul taught. There the evening service has been celebrated.
During their visit to Greece of Polish guests visited many monasteries including: the Great Meteora, Kallipetra and St. Trinity Monastery at Mount Olympus, where they were received by the Metropolitan of Ellason Basil.
