A new attack against the Fathers of Esphigmenou Monastery was started a few days ago, just before New Calendar Christmas. The counterfeit monastic community rallied church and political forces in a new attempt to send in the Greek military to expel the 110 Fathers and to take over the Monastery. It seems that the real reason for these renewed activities is that the group of seven monks that support the Patriarch wants access to the European Union funds which the Fathers of Esphigmenou refuse to accept. The Fathers of Esphigmenou wait for the Greek government to send in the army and expel them. They prefer to die rather than abandon their monastery.
This Sunday, January 3, 2010, at 6:00pm, at the St. Nektarios Church Hall, a documentary on the persecution of the Fathers of Esphigmenou will be shown. The purpose of this event is to show support for the fathers and to raise funds to help them survive through these difficult times. Please make every effort to attend. In Christ,+Fr. Panagiotes
