TEENS TO UNVEIL TEEN FRIENDLY NEW ORLEANS CAMPAIGN AT VICTIM'S MURDER SITE HARVEY, LA – March 21, 2007 –

The teens of YOUTHanasia Foundation, Inc. are inviting the community and
community leaders to join them on Saturday, March 31, 2007, at 12:30
p.m. for a press conference that will unveil their plan of action for a
"Teen Friendly Greater New Orleans". The press conference will
include a march that will begin at the vacant lot located next to 4162
Manhattan Blvd. (Manhattan Athletic Club) and ending at the murder site
of 17-year old Quantrell Barbie. Barbie was murdered in October of 2006
on Lac Couture Drive in Harvey. The campaign for a teen friendly
Greater New Orleans is the result of a challenge given to the teens by
Kimberly Dilosa, Founder and Executive Director of YOUTHanasia
Foundation, Inc. The teens have developed a series of events that they
strongly feel will decrease the rise in teen violence that has plagued
Greater New Orleans post-Hurricane Katrina. "After receiving a
$120, 000 leadership grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, I
gave the teens the opportunity to develop a plan of action that would
allow us to help rebuild Greater New Orleans to be a city the is teen
friendly." Families that have lost teens to violence or suicide
are invited to bring pictures of their loved ones for display during the
march. YOUTHanasia Foundation was created in 1997 to provide
prevention and intervention programs for youth in grades 8-12. The
foundation advocates for the inclusion of teen opinion in community
problem solving, and allows the youth of Greater New Orleans to create
unique non-violent solutions to problems. YOUTHanasia' s mission is
to intervene in and/or prevent teen failure through effective leadership
development, community service, cultural arts enrichment, health and
life skills education, and emotional nurturing.
