NCAC Presents Leave No Trace Trainer Course
(Required for the Eagle LNT Leadership Position)
This course is designed to enhance your understanding of Leave No Trace practices and ethics and to increase your level of expertise and confidence in teaching Leave No Trace skills. Through focused activities, hands-on field experience and both formal and informal discussions, you will be introduced to concepts and methods that will advance your knowledge of Leave No Trace issues, expand your repertoire of low-impact skills and increase your effectiveness in teaching these important skills to others.
On completion of this course, participants will be registered as Leave No Trace Trainers with the national Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics and will receive a certificate of course completion as well as their Leave No Trace Trainer lapel pin.
Friday evening through Sunday morning, March 15-17 – Outdoor Instruction - Camp Snyder – Overnight camping – Short hikes.
Price - $ 46.00 (non-refundable) includes all camping fees, course materials, and meals. Registration is via the NCAC website.

Our four-day course is designed to help the troop, team, or crew by exposing older Scouts, Venturers, and adult leaders to safely conducted outdoor/high-adventure activities of a fun and challenging nature. The course provides an introduction to the resources needed to successfully lead youth through a program of outdoor adventure and is based upon giving participants an exposure to some outdoor/high-adventure activities. Apply now to sail aboard the tall ship Coast Guard Barque Eagle! The Eagle is a three-masted barque-rigged ship used to train cadets and officer candidates in the U.S.. Coast Guard. The Eagle was built in Germany in 1936 and was taken as a war reparation by the USA after World War II. Since then the Eagle has been home ported in New London, Connecticut, the location of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy.The National Sea Scout Support Committee has again made special arrangements with the US Coast Guard Academy for select Sea Scouts to join as crew aboard the Eagle during its 2013 summer cadet cruise. A World Scout Moot is similar to a World Scout Jamboree, but for the next older age group. Participants in a World Scout Moot are 18 through 25 years old. The 14th World Scout Moot will take place in Canada from August 8 to 18, 2013, with activities in both Quebec and Ontario. The BSA contingent will meet in Ottawa on August 7.Who? The BSA contingent to the World Scout Moot will consist of registered Venturers, Advisors, Associate Advisors, Scoutmasters, and Assistant Scoutmasters who were born between August 9, 1987 and August 7, 1995. This will be the first time 21-25 year old leaders have ever been part of a BSA contingent to a World Scout Moot.What will it cost? The BSA fee of $1100 per person covers the World Scout Moot fee for lodging, food, transportation, and activities from the time you arrive at the Moot until the time you depart plus BSA badges, bags, and support. NYGARD SEA SCOUT REGATTAThe Annual Sea Scout Regatta will be held on May 24 to 27, 2013 at Camp Maria Retreat Center in Leonardtown, Md. It will be attended by about 200 Sea Scouts from all over the Eastern Seaboard. The week-end will be full of competitive events and social activities.
All Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts are invited to visit or attend. Those attending who are between the age of 14 and 21 may compete in all events. Scouts of other ages may take part in all events except the scored events. Some of the scored events include races in canoeing, rowing, pulling boat, sailboats, also swimming, knot tying, First Aid, Mariner Quiz, drill, heaving line, boatswain’s chair lift, and much more.

FAR OUT EVENTSAquatics Courses
BSA Safe Swim Defense (SSD) and Safety Afloat (SA) training is required for any BSA unit conducting swimming or boating activities. Adult leaders supervising a swimming/boating activity must have completed Safe Swim Defense/Safety Afloat training within the previous two years.
SSD and SA training is available online at scouting.org. In-person training consists of viewing the SSD or SA DVD and answering the interactive questions that are part of the training. The advantage to in-person training is that questions can be asked of the facilitator. Contact the NCAC Aquatics Committee Chair Mike Meenehan to arrange in-person training for your Unit.
NCAC also offers this training at Pow Wow and University of Scouting. This training must be presented by qualified trainers.
