Rocket Launch - Reminder
Boy Scout Teams, Troops and Crews
As a reminder, the next Northern Virginia Association of Rocketry (NOVAAR) Sport Launch, which will be on June 11. If you have not picked-up your motors, igniters, plugs and wading, please arrange to come by the VFW Wednesday night between 7:00pm and 7:30pm or contact me to make other arrangements.
NOVAAR is happy to have youth groups join their monthly sport launches at Great Meadow, in The Plains, VA (off exit 31 off I-66). For a NOVAAR launch, Troops will need to bring all the rockets, motors, igniters, plugs and wadding, as well as the means to repair moderate damage. Troops might also think about replacement rockets for Scouts (or Scouters) who experience the loss of their rocket. NOVAAR will provide launchers and controllers, so you don't need to bring your launch stands or controllers. Please do not plan on launching prior to Noon, and that your Unit must have adequate adult supervision. Open launch during the summer usually goes from Noon to 4pm.
Prior to each launch, please ensure the rockets are properly assembled, have the parachutes and wadding properly installed, have motors, igniters and plugs installed before sending the families to check in with the Range Safety Officer. The RSO will give them instructions on which pad to use, and will announce each launch.
Once at the launch, contact a NOVAAR member on the field (look for the orange shirts) to provide your families a short safety lecture. Carl intends on being there that day, as there is a lot of interest from a variety of Scout units and other youth groups.
