Open Door Repertory Company: leopard woman
- Open Door Repertory Company presents
a new play by company member and playwright/screenwriter ("Beat Street")
Before Ashcroft, there was Joe McCarthy. Before the Dixie Chicks and Michael
Moore, there was prison for actors, writers and filmmakers who dared to
dissent. In 1950, the studios were grooming Charlotte Hackett for stardom when she
refused to sign a loyalty oath. LEOPARD WOMAN explores here life over the
next half-century, through Cuba, Vietnam and federal prison to a shared
apartment with her slacker grandson. It?s a story of principle in a welter of chaos,
repression and unintended consequences.
LEOPARD WOMAN previews April 27 and 28 (8:00 pm), and opens April 29, with
more performances on April 30, May 6, 7, 13 and 14 (8:00 pm), and May 15 (2:00
pm). At Hatch Auditorium, 1000 Ridgeland in Oak Park (6400 W., between North
Ave. and Division), entrance on Harvey (just east of Ridgeland). Ample street
parking. Tickets at 708-802-1723 or the door.
