Launceston Steam Railway
- Hi All sorry for the cross posting but some of you will not have heard this, but as many enthusiasts enjoy visits to Launceston so it will be of interest (and apologies to those who have already seen a similar message several times elsewhere!):
Members of this discussion group may be aware that there is a proposal to extend the Launceston Steam Railway by a further two miles to the village of Egloskerry.
The extension had been proposed as part of a project Cornwall Council is developing to build a new multi-use trail. Following several years of negotiations, the original project to build a 100% off-road trail and extend the railway has turned into a trail that will be 46% on road, with the off-road section designed in a way that will block any future extension of the railway (thus potentially jeopardising the long-term future of the LSR).
Two planning applications have recently been made by Cornwall Council(to themselves) regarding the trail; anyone is able to make an objection to the planning applications, so if you have any concern about the effect of the trail on the LSR it is recommended that you submit an objection. If you don't have the time to write an objection, but wish to support the LSR, you can also sign our petition at http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/lsr/.
Further details of the current situation and the proposals can be found on the `TRAC Project' and `News' pages of the LSR website (www.launcestonsr.co.uk).Passed on from the LSRregardsColin Rainsbury
