Group Description

This group is for the discussion of a variant of whist called "Norwegian or Minnesota Whist", a card game popularly played in Minnesota, mostly among those of Norwegian ancestry. (It is simply referred to as "whist" by those who play it in Minnesota, although this is not technically correct -- it is a variant in the "whist" family of card games, of which contract bridge is the most well-known relative.)

Representative rules for playing Norwegian Whist can be found at:

(Note that there are small variations in the above rules of Norwegian whist, particularly with the technique for declaring one's bid and in scoring. Also, some family rules state that if one is dealt no aces nor face cards they can declare a misdeal if they so elect.)

It is hoped that this group will establish a "canonical" set of rules and associated etiquette to be used for all tournament play, and possibly even become a catalyst in creating an association to promote Norwegian Whist worldwide as a friendlier, much easier to master, yet challenging alternative to contract bridge.
