Let's face it; there just isn't much about Africa in North Texas.  So we wanted to share with you Dallas Museum of Art (DMA)'s "Celebrate Africa!" programs on January 7 & 8.

      1)  Special exhibition: Variations on a Theme: Three “Olumeye” by Olowe of Ise continues at DMA through January 15.

      2)  Saturday, January 7 ; Panel Discussion, 2:00 p.m.
Panel discussion on collecting African art with Phillip Collins, chief curator, African American Museum Dallas; Dr. John Pemberton II, Yoruba art specialist; Gerald Smith, art collector; John Buxton, Antiques Roadshow appraiser; and Dr. Roslyn Walker, Dallas Museum of Art curator of African art.

      3)  Saturday, January 7 ; 3:00 p.m --  A concert featuring KUMAASI African Ensemble.

No additional charge -- but the DMA general admission for non-members is $10 (except on Thursday nights after 5 PM).  A map is at: http://www.dallasmuseumofart.org/Dallas_Museum_of_Art/Visit/ID_011367

There are numerous Africa events for Sunday, January 8 as well at DMA.

Further, NTPCA has already scheduled a visit to Nasher Sculpture Garden at 10:30 AM on Saturday, January 7 (free before 12 noon),   (The Nasher is cross the street from the DMA.)  We meet us in the Nasher lobby at 10:30 AM, and then eat at an international restaurant -- maybe Cafe Brazil in Deep Ellum?
