World famous microfinancier, John Hatch, RPCV/Colombia, is coming to town!!!
- John Hatch, RPCV/Colombia, is internationally renowned in the world of
microfinance and will be speaking at the Commonwealth Club on October
22nd. John is founder of FINCA (Foundation of International Community
Assistance) and ASAP (Alliance for Students Against Poverty), as well as
co-founder and executive committee member of the Microcredit Summit
Campaign. Nobel Peace Prize winner Mohammed Yunnus is a friend of John's
and has been one of FINCA's Board Members.

TITLE: Revolution in Microfinance: How Today's Youth Will End Global
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: John Hatch will present an overview of
microfinancing, then discuss his newest venture, The Alliance of Students
Against Poverty. ASAP is a campaign to abolish extreme poverty by the
year 2025. It is currently organizing thousands of student activists to
raise $8 billion dollars over the next 18 years by enlisting millions of
Americans to reduce their current consumption by $1/day and to donate
that money to those living on less than $1/day. As a foundation, ASAP
will extend grants to existing microfinance institutions (MFI) that seek
to double-match the savings of the poorest of the poor, and single-match
investments in the poorest by MFIs themselves.
