      Greetings RPCVs!

Peace Corps Director Ron Tschetter is visiting the Bay Area a week from
today, on Wednesday, August 8th. This is an exciting chance to raise
the profile of Peace Corps in our community. Read on for ways to be a
part of Director Tschetter's first visit to Northern California as
      Director!

Ron Tschetter was unanimously confirmed by Congress as Director of the
Peace Corps last September. He is the 17th Director of the Peace Corps,
and the third Director who is also an RPCV. He and his wife Nancy were
Volunteers in India from 1966 to 1968.

Next Wednesday will be a whirlwind trip for the Director. As you may
know, Director Tschetter is passionate about opening up Peace Corps
service to a greater number of Seniors and Baby Boomers. Yes, we still
love and need our wonderful Volunteers UNDER age 50, but we have a lot
of work to do to correct the misconception the Peace Corps service is
      just for twenty-somethings.

      Here's what we have planned:
      Wednesday, August 8

      10 a.m. -- Listen to Forum on KQED (88.5)

Michael Krasny will be chatting with Director Tschetter for an hour
about Peace Corps. Do you agree that Peace Corps is still vital in the
world? Call in to share your thoughts during the show at 415-863-2476.
      The toll-free number is: 866-SF-FORUM (866-733-6786).

***2:45 p.m.*** -- Photo op in the East Bay

We will be honoring two wonderful RPCVs at our offices in Oakland. This
is a brief event that we are pitching to the TV media as a great
photo-op (the Director flanked by many local RPCVs). We need RPCVs to
make up this "crowd!" If you are available, please come around 2:45
p.m. to our building: 1301 Clay Street, Oakland (12th St/City Center
BART). Gather in the plaza in front of the Post Office. The
presentation will take place there at 3 p.m. (PLEASE NOTE: As a media
event, this is, unfortunately, not a meet-and-greet opportunity with the
Director, but your participation is greatly appreciated!)

6:30 p.m. -- Public Event [Volunteer Ushers Needed!]

Director Tschetter will speak on our 50+ initiative, and we will honor
local RPCVs who served while age 50+. This is a recruitment event
designed for an audience of people age 50 and above who are interested
in Peace Corps service or curious to learn more. RPCVs are, of course,
welcome, and seating is limited. RSVP to 510-452-8442 or
      sfevents@....

Volunteer ushers needed from 5:45 pm to 6:30 pm. If you can help,
      contact Lindsay Culp at 510-452-4852

[Program: 6:30 to 7:45 p.m., San Francisco Public Library's Koret
Auditorium, 100 Larkin Street (at Grove), San Francisco; Located on the
Library's lower level; Enter 30 Grove St., proceed down stairs; Note:
This is not a Library Sponsored Program. Please use public contact
      information provided.]

      ***8 p.m.*** -- RPCV Meet and Greet
Hotel Whitcomb, 1231 Market Street (Civic Center BART)
This is an informal gathering following our public event at the San
      Francisco Library.

Please let me know if you have any questions about these events!

      Thanks!
