Naturalization Workshop - 8/14 - Volunteers Wanted
- HELP WANTED S.F. needs help for potential U.S. citizens: As part of a national effort to encourage more than 10 million legal residents to become U.S. citizens, Rep. Nancy Pelosi's office is holding a naturalization workshop from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 14 at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium. Volunteers, especially those with additional language skills in Spanish, Cantonese or Mandarin, are needed to help interested green-card holders fill out applications. "For most immigrants, becoming a United States' citizen is the culmination of many years of hard work," Pelosi says. "Being a citizen offers new opportunity to have a greater say and a stronger voice in determining our country's future. I encourage all Americans to exercise those opportunities with political and civic participation." Marcela Salazar, Pelosi's press adviser, says that although the workshop is intended for the congresswoman's District 8 constituents, resources will be provided for as many San
Francisco residents as possible. Volunteers are asked to take one of two training sessions offered on either from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday or from 10 a.m. to noon Aug. 12. To sign up, call Deputy District Director Melanie Nutter, (415) 556-4862, or e-mail sf.nancy@.... For permanent legal residents of five years or more who would like to attend the workshop or get more information, call (888) 841-8801.
