Bay Area Organization
- Over the last year, the International Rescue Committee (IRC) has been resettling a number of Liberian refugees in Oakland. IRC’s Liberian Family Resource Program is looking for more interns and volunteers to help out with these families, and I thought some of you might be interested. They are currently in need of volunteers to tutor youth in their afterschool program, to act as family mentors by working directly with a Liberian family, and to work closely with the Youth Program Assistant on developing a summer program for the children.
Personally, this is a great chance to get to know some wonderful people. It’s also a great opportunity for anyone interested in refugee resettlement, immigration, development, education, sociology, and a host of other areas. Training and support is provided by staff, and the time commitment is about once a week.
Please contact me with any questions and for a more detailed description of available volunteer and intern positions. And feel free to pass this info along to anyone else who might be interested!
