Subject: Northern California and Peace Corps commemorative legislation

      Dear Northern California RPCV groups:

As you may have seen, the House of Representatives this week passed H.R. 4195, legislation that authorizes a commemorative near the National Mall that would mark the lasting historical significance of the Peace Corps and the ideals and values that it represents.

This would not have happened without the leadership of RPCV lawmakers from your region.  Congressman Sam Farr introduced the legislation and was instrumental in guiding the legislation through the Natural Resources Committee and to the House floor, where he spoke in support of the legislation.

Fellow RPCV Congressmen Mike Honda and John Garamendi were original co-sponsors of the legislation who assisted with outreach and building support for the bill.

We are also happy to say that Congresswoman Barbara Lee, Congresswoman Lynn Woolsey, Congressman Pete Stark and Congressman Jerry McNerney were all among the 51 co-sponsors who helped provide the necessary momentum to move the legislation forward.

Please share this good news with members of the Peace Corps community from your area.

Thanks and have a pleasant weekend!

      Jonathan
