There is no such thing as a separate Tax ID number.
The only federal tax number is your EIN. Organizations use that number on your 990 tax return.
You need an EIN to open a bank account; since you have that, you can go ahead with that.
Generally, contributions are tax deductible dating from the date you filed the application form. Of course, that only matters if you get that application approved.

- agree - however, some people refer to the UBI # from the State as Tax ID - it is the number you use when you don't have to pay sales tax because you are reselling the item
