          Do you:
Have an interest in China, Indonesia, Vietnam or Laos?
Want to have a large impact on a small community?
          Love exciting new experiences?
          Enjoy challenging yourself?

Then VIA is looking for you!
VIA (formerly Volunteers in Asia) offers summer, one- and two-year
opportunities for you to volunteer with a local organization or
educational institution while living in the local community. With over
40 years of experience running international volunteer programs, VIA
provides you with the skills and support to empower you to make a
long-lasting, positive impact on the community you live in.

VIA currently offers summer programs in Vietnam and Indonesia, and
long-term programs in China, Vietnam, Indonesia and Laos with
opportunities in Burma and Thailand under development. Visit us online
          www.viaprograms.org. 2006 application deadline is February 23rd.

During VIA's six-week Teach-In-Hue Summer Program, volunteers teach
conversational English and American culture to 1st and 2nd year English
majors in the morning. In the afternoons, volunteers may study
Vietnamese independently, visit historical sites, spend time with
Vietnamese students or pursue other personal interests. You will have a
mentor teacher, usually a returning, or continuing, long-term volunteer,
who will arrange a weeklong orientation in Hanoi, coordinate logistics,
          and offer teaching advice.

VIA's eight-week Bali Service-Learning Program combines education with
community service. The first three weeks you will study Bahasa
Indonesian language and Balinese history and culture. The next five
weeks you will work with local organizations dealing with marine
conservation while living with a host family, putting your newfound
language skills to work! Your summer program coordinator, one of VIA's
long-term volunteers, will be with you throughout the program to provide
          guidance and assistance.

          All summer program participants receive training prior to departure;
round-trip international airfare, visa processing medical and evacuation
insurance, and housing is provided by VIA.

If you are interested in a longer commitment, VIA's long-term programs
allow you to enjoy the sense of community that is fostered by living and
working in one place for an extended period. You have the opportunity to
work as an English teacher for a local university or middle school, or as
an English resource person for a local organization. While specific
conditions vary from post to post, all of our long-term volunteers are
provided with over 6 weeks of training in their first year, support from
their home office program director and in-country program coordinator,
medical and evacuation insurance, visa processing, housing and a living
          stipend.

Applications for our 2006 programs are due February 23 and can be
          downloaded at

Interviews will be held the first weekend in March and applicants will be notified
within two weeks if they have been accepted. All volunteers will attend
a training session in Santa Cruz, CA April 7-9. Departure is in June or
July depending on program Please visit the website for exact dates.

If you have any questions, please contact Kirsten Walsh, VIA's outreach director by email at info@... or by phone at 650-725-7433.
