Open Position: Pierce County Youth Development Specialist
Planned Parenthood of the Great Northwest (PPGNW) is seeking a dynamic individual to serve as a youth development specialist for the Teen Outreach Program (TOP) in Pierce County, Washington. TOP is a highly-respected and rigorously-evaluated program which aims to increase academic success and decrease teen pregnancy by connecting with youth on a broad range of topics including life skills & sexual health. An age-appropriate and medically accurate curriculum is supplemented by community service learning to help young people build healthy behaviors and develop a sense of purpose.

POSITION TITLE: Youth Development Specialist
REPORTS TO: Teen Outreach Program Manager
FLSA STATUS: Exempt
DATE: July 8, 2011
The Youth Development Specialist is responsible for facilitating weekly sessions and coordinating service-learning
opportunities using the Teen Outreach Program model. In addition, this position supports strategies to support overall goals
of the project, ultimately ensuring successful implementation and provision of accurate sexual health information in a safe,
non-judgmental manner, as aligned with the department’s mission.
Presents high quality, medically accurate information on life skills and sexual health while leading weekly TOP
discussion groups that are age and culturally appropriate.
Collaborates with the Service Learning Coordinator to provide engaging service-learning opportunities
Collaborates and networks with community agencies, service providers, and individual to create service learning
Advocates for participants by referring them to other community services as needed
Maintains relationship with youth participants and supports communication with family as appropriate
Maintains relationship with school staff and community partners as needed
Meets weekly with co-facilitator to assess and plan TOP sessions
Promotes the Teen Outreach Program in the community and represents the agency at community events
Supports evaluation process by collecting accurate data and working directly with Teen Outreach Program management
Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending workshops, reviewing professional publications and
Participates in larger department and agency initiatives as appropriate
Maintains job knowledge by attending meetings and trainings as required.

BA/BS in related field required
Two years experience working with youth
Experience with youth development programs preferred
