Looking for help at the Historical society
- The Nobles County Historical Society is in the process of cataloging
their entire collection. In the past the historical society has never
had a comprehensive listing of all their artifacts.
The society has now purchased museum software called PastPerfect. The
software will be a great asset to them it the process of cataloging
their collection. With this software the society's entire collection
can be cross reference to any number of search categories. It is a
very powerful software that is relative simple to use. When complete
the computer catalog will contain their entire collection. This is a
long term project; there are thousands of artifacts in just their
museum with out even taking in to consideration Pioneer Village.
The society will need a lot of help it this daunting project. They are
looking for volunteers who are willing to commit time and expertise.
The main need at this time is for people to help enter the information
into the computer database. It is a simple process on a windows based
system. The are also looking for local "experts" in various collection
fields, do you know postcards, quilts, guns, etc. There is a wide
variety of artifacts the society needs help in documenting and
assessing. They already have a person who is willing to help go
through their military uniform collection to help assesses the
collection and document what all it contains and what it lacks so they
will know in the future what items to be on the look out for.
The project is starting off with the photo collection, if you have
some time to commit and an interest in old photos of the area stop by
or give them a call. We REALLY need your help! If you have some free
time in the afternoon shoot me an email: demuth@...
