July 13 & July 14th - 4 TANGO WORKSHOPS by Academia Nacional Del Tango Official Representative - Leonardo Suarez Paz with Olga Suarez Paz on the syles of Tango from the 40's 50's Canyungue and Milonga at Dance Manhattan. 2:00 - 3:30 pm: Rhythm - Dancing to 40's D'Arienzo, Biagi, Canaro, Troilo, Piazzolla Tipica '46:Learn the technique, musicality and specific steps to dance to the orchestras of the 40's and express the rhythmical qualities, power, playfulness and changes of intensity for this decade's music.
3:30 - 5 pm: Milonga - Technique & Rhythmic Roots to Dance with Style. From the real roots of tango - the Candombe, milonga was created. The workshop will focus on the form, steps & rhythm from the roots to milonga of the 40's and 50's with it's elegant salon style. Students will learn to hear & identify the Habanera & take away steps that can be applied to the music with style.
12:30 - 2 pm Elegance - Dancing to 50's DiSarli, Fresedo, Pontier, Salgan, Pugliese. Learn the technique, musicality and specific steps to dance to the Orchestras of the 50' express the smooth, elegant salon style. How to make the transition to this style & differentiate your dancing for the musically complex orchestras of the 50's.
2:30 - 4 pm Tango Canyengue (aka Tango Orillero) Canyengue, also called Tango Orillero, for being danced on the boarders of Riachuelo was a whole fashion, from clothing to the slang language called "lunfardo" to it's most famous dancer, El Cachafaz. Students will learn important vocabulary, the very close embrace steps of this style with it's sharp movements and the difference between the basic steps of today and the Orillero style, all with the music of Canaro, De Caro, Quinteto Pirincho and others who exemplify it.
