In response to Eric Britton's message "classic bus lane backslide" and
taking a look at the news report from the "The Courier Mail -- Queensland
News" this is the comment I've submitted to the paper. Can't say if they
will publish it but I'm sharing it with friends on the New Mobility Yahoo
      Group.
      This is what I submitted:

This is insane. Even after seeing the widespread damage caused by
automobile dominated city development(pollution, road congestion,
squandering finite resource of fossil fuels, high energy , accidents,
threat to health, threat to the natural and the built environment of
cities, as cars have never ending and increasing appetite for roads, roads
and more roads AND parking spaces) and benefits of running an efficient
public transport (transit) which performs better on all the above mentioned
counts, it is amazing that a developed country like Australia should be in
the news for such a retrograde step of removing the bus lane in Brisbane.
The news item does not quote any statement by users of the bus transit or
citizens' groups concerned with environmental and social damage this
unfortunate action is sure to cause. Does that mean such stakeholders don't
exist or are so weak that their opinions don't count. I'm glad to say that
we are more vocal in demanding a better deal for public transport and would
never have allowed our Mayor to act in this manner.
