REGINA - A man arrested for stealing a van the night five-year-old Tamra Keepness went missing in Regina has now been charged with assaulting a woman who was also investigated as part of the case.

Walter Obey is accused of assaulting Sherry Ann Rose, who was charged with public mischief late last week.

Police allege Rose intentionally misled the investigation by providing false information regarding the case.

Obey was also charged last September after police located a burned-out van that had been stolen the same night Tamra disappeared, about 10 blocks from her house.

No connection between the Keepness case and the van has been established.

Rose will be in court later this week. Obey's next court appearance will be in the new year.

Tamra disappeared from her Regina home in July. Police are still searching for her.

Last August, the girl's biological father, Troy Keepness, was charged with assault with a weapon for allegedly hitting her stepfather, Dean McArthur, with a baseball bat.

McArthur was charged in July with assault causing bodily harm after a man who said he'd seen Tamra sleeping on a couch four hours after the girl's mother last reported seeing her was allegedly attacked.
